Referrals

McIver wants to be sure that referring counsel benefit from making the solid choice of sending prospective health care litigation cases to McIver for handling. But what works for one firm may not work for another. While some firms want to remain involved in their cases and receive a more significant referral fee, others prefer to take a reduced referral fee with a corresponding reduction in their involvement. Whatever your preference, McIver will work with you to create a referral arrangement that works for you, the client, and McIver. In general, McIver works with referring attorneys in the following three ways:

Individual Cases—For those referring attorneys who only have the periodic health care litigation case to refer, we will work with the referring attorney to craft a referral agreement that is consistent with the desires of the referring attorney to be involved in the case, the likely economic value of the case, and the expertise needed to handle the matter.

Non-Exclusive, Consistent Cases—For those referring attorneys who consistently have health care litigation cases but prefer to refer the cases to various firms, McIver will work with the attorney to craft an agreement that sets referral fees that are consistent with the Texas rules, the desires of the referring counsel to be involved, and tiered to provide escalating referral fees for more significant cases. The primary advantage is that once the agreement is reached, the referral process is much smoother and takes less attorney time. Because of McIver’s proprietary technological solutions, referring counsel will receive consolidated reports containing status summaries and updates on each of their cases in an easy to review, monthly report.

Exclusive Firms—Firms with an exclusive referral relationship with McIver agree to send every health care litigation matter that comes in to McIver for review. In addition to the client service that McIver applies to all of its referring counsel, Exclusive Firms receive a larger referral fee at each case tier. This increased referral fee is to recognize the improved efficiency of working consistently with the same staff members and lawyers.

Almost as important as the type of financial relationship that referring firms have with McIver is the knowledge that McIver only handles healthcare litigation cases.  When you refer a case to McIver, you can be confident that McIver is only interested in the healthcare litigation case, not any other cases that source may have.
